| Understanding
Volvo's Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) |
| From the RD
News Desk |
| Many questions have
been raised among Yellow Transportation Road Drivers and
head-on collisions that have occurred involving the lack
of airbag deployment. Consequently, here at
RoadDrivers.Org, we thought we would provide a bit of
insight on the issue. |
| Volvo's Supplemental Restraint System
is just that, a supplemental system to the safety
belt. |
| The following
statements can be found in the student hand book
pictured to the left: |
| The SRS system is
designed to reduce the risk of injury to the driver's
face and upper body in a head on collision with a fixed
or heavy object. The damage to the truck is not always
proportional to whether the air bag deploys or not. The
SRS system is not designed to be activated when: |
- the collision is from either
side
- the collision is from the rear
- the truck rolls over
- the collision is at low speed
or against soft objects such as bushes, snow drifts,
etc.
|
| The airbag together
with the safety belt provides a greater degree of safety
to the driver in severe frontal or front angular type
collisions. |
